Early Education

First five years of life

First five years of life is critical. As 90% of brain development happens before age five. From birth to age five years a child’s brain develops more than at any other time in life. Early brain development has a lasting impact on a child’s ability to learn and succeed in school and life.

Highscope approach

The HighScope curriculum approach adopted by A Head Start Children’s Centre in 2007 is at the heart of learning and development for children from babies through to preschool. Our highly qualified and experienced teachers and educators have continuously used our A Head Start curriculum with HighScope techniques imbedded, to guide children’s learning and development and learning since January 2008 with outstanding success.

How we use highscope

The Abecedarian Approach

In 2019 A Head Start Children’s Centre included elements of the new Abecedarian Approach Australia into our curriculum which mirrors aspects of HighScope. A Head Start has an Abecedarian approved practitioner responsible for implementing the Abecedarian Professional Learning Program initiated through the University of Melbourne.

Our Abecedarian Approach
